Gillian Andersonhas revealed that not one, but two accidents occurred while she was shooting a very memorableX-Filesscene.
The actress confirmed that the car crash that happened behind her in the season 3 episode "War of the Coprophages" —andthat the moment right after when a man crashed intoher— were both real while visitingJimmy Kimmel Liveon Tuesday.
"Now, true or false: That was an actual accident that happened behind you?" hostJimmy Kimmelasked during their interview.
To which Anderson replied, "Yeah, it was."
When Kimmel asked if the people involved in the collision were part of the production team, Anderson revealed, "Yeah, I think it was the stuntmen."
Inspired by H. G. Wells'The War of the Worlds, "War of the Coprophages" saw Scully and Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) sent to investigate whether or not a swarm of killer cockroaches terrifying a small town are real bugs or robotic alien probes disguised as the creepy-crawlies.
While Anderson played it cool at the time, the Emmy winner added that she would have a very different reaction if an accident like that occurred behind her during a take today. "I mean, these days, I probably would've said, 'Oh my God, are you kidding me?'" she said. "But I just went on with it."

In addition to that accident, Kimmel pointed out that the scene featured a frantic man crashing into Scully as she enters the convenient store near the accident.
"That guy bumping into you, was that an accident or was that part of the deal?" he asked.
Anderson replied, "I think that was an accident."
Kimmel, a die-hardX-Filesfan, was delighted over the news. "Two accidents in one shot?" he remarked. "It's an X-File in and of itself!"
The late-night host also asked if the director of the episode, Kim Manners, was thrilled that Anderson chose to continue filming the scene instead of stopping. "That I can't remember," she confessed, "but I'm sure, because they got to keep it. And it adds tension to the scene, right?"
Released in 1993, theX-Fileswould go on to become a massive franchise that ran for nine seasons on Fox and also spawned multiple spinoffs and two films. It was later revived for an additional two seasons that aired on Fox from 2016 to 2018.
And the mysteries may not be over.SinnersandBlack Pantherdirector Ryan Coogler has confirmed that he is working on a reboot of the series — and Anderson has already been in touch with him about it.
"I spoke to [Coogler], and what I said was, 'If anyone were to do it, I think you are the perfect person, and best of luck,'" Anderson said onITV1'sThis Morningin May. She also told the filmmaker, "Call me."
