Glasgow, Fort William and parts of the Scottish Borders will see temperatures over 20C this weekend.

Edinburgh will also be a toasty 19C on Saturday.

It means that Scotland will be warmer than Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires, at 16C over the weekend.

The mercury is set to rise gradually over the next few days before the warm weather sets in at the weekend.

It could also mean that Scotland will be slightly hotter than Spanish party island Ibiza at 21C.

Sunny intervals are expected tomorrow in different parts of the country with a mixture of clouds. Some could even see the odd drizzle.

It is expected to reach around 18C.

Temperatures will continue to rise but Thursday will see rain in the morning before turning drier and brighter in the afternoon.

It is predicted to be a dry day on Friday and Saturday, with some warm sunshine.

However, the warm weather is not predicted to last, as Sunday is expected to be a hot wet day before temperatures begin to reduce.

Heavy rain is likely to occur with some areas even experiencing the odd thunderstorm.

Following this, temperatures are predicted to settle and return to normal in May.

It comes after the Met Office issued a "danger to life" alert warning.

Lightning, hail and heavy downpours were forecasted for yesterday afternoon and evening in a large area of central and western Scotland, including the Glasgow area.

It warned that areas in Central, Tayside and Fife, south west Scotland, Lothian and Borders as well as Strathclyde were at risk.

Residents in some areas were told to prepare for the possibility of up to 40mm of rain.
