This is the harrowing moment a landslide buried as many as nine staff of a gold mine inside.

Footage captured by a bulldozer driver exhibits the surging mud sweeping via the valley like an enormous volcanic eruption.

Nobody has heard from the employees on the Çöpler gold mine because the catastrophe occurred close to the town of Ilic in Turkey.

Inside minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that 9 staff have been missing because the landslide struck at about 2.30pm on Tuesday.

Some 400 search and rescue personnel have been deployed to the scene of the incident in the mountainous Erzincan province.

But specialists and local officials stated the search was difficult by the presence of cyanide – a highly toxic chemical compound used to extract gold from ore – in the floor.
