No offense to twins everywhere, butRyan Coogleris scared to see double.

Yet, despite his fear of doppelgängers, the acclaimed director still chose to center his latest box office hit,Sinners, around twin brothers played byMichael B. Jordan.

Coogler made the comical revelation during a recentappearance on theGood Hang With Amy Poehlerpodcast, when Poehler asked him why he chose to make Jordan's characters twins, given the difficulties such a decision inherently adds to any film shoot.

"For sure," Coogler agreed. "I mean, look, it was a hook for me. It was so sticky, right? In this day and age I think you need multiple reasons to lean in when there's so many great things available."

He continued, "There are so many ways to spend time. So for me, I think that I'm a firm believer in things having multiple hooks, you know what I mean? And it's a hook for me because I have twins in my family, and I love them, and I got a lot of homies as twins, but I also have a crippling fear of doppelgängers, like a straight phobia. You know what I mean?"

When Poehler laughed and said that she didn't, in fact, know what he meant, she asked if his phobia stems from a fear of meeting his own doppelgänger. "Yeah, I've had nightmares like that," Coogler replied, to which Poehler offered that "the idea of twins in general is a little creepy" as is the idea of "someone who was in the womb with you."

"Yeah, that's fascinating to me," Coogler agreed. "And we dug deep with Mike [Jordan]. Like I got two buddies who are filmmakers, Noah and Logan Miller... I actually asked them if they would be open to being consultants on the movie, like to work with me and Mike on developing the characters."

Coogler continued, "And we dug so deep into the mindset and the dynamics of what it's like to have essentially a copy of yourself next to you all the time, you know. But Mike, he just knocked me back by his brilliance and how he portrayed these characters."

InSinners, which Coogler directed and wrote, Jordan plays twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return to their hometown to start fresh, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them.

The film, and Jordan's dual performance, are major players in this year's awards race. It was up for seven awards at the Golden Globes, where it won two, and the film had a leading 17 nominations at the 31st Critics Choice Awards, where it won four.

George R.R. Martin shares new insights into 'Winds of Winter' delay

George R.R. Martin shares new insights into 'Winds of Winter' delay

After another year came and went without "The Winds of Winter,"George R.R. Martinis opening up in a new interview about the book's massive, ongoing delay.

The "Game of Thrones" author, 77,spoke with The Hollywood Reporterin an interview published Jan. 15 about the status of "The Winds of Winter," the planned next book in his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series that he has spent more than a decade trying to complete.

Martin has not published a new mainline entry in his book series, which was adapted into HBO's "Game of Thrones," since 2011. He has continued to provide updates about struggling to finish "The Winds of Winter" for nearly 15 years, and at one point planned to have the book done by the end of 2015.

Martin told The Hollywood Reporter that he might be able to finally finish the book "soon," if only he could rid himself of his many other commitments.

"I have to write more Dunk and Egg," he said, referring to his series of novellas that have been adapted into the new spinoff show "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms."

"There's supposed to be another 'Fire and Blood' book, too. I do think if I can just get some of these other things off my back, I could finish 'The Winds of Winter' pretty soon. It's been made clear to me that 'Winds' is the priority, but … I don't know. Sometimes I'm not in the mood for that."

Martin confirmed he won't allow another author to complete his books, noting the series would remain incomplete if he were to die before the last installment. "If that happens, my work won't be finished," he said, though he stressed that his health is fine and he is "not dying."

Martin also said he will not give up on writing the book. "I would hate that," he told the Reporter. "It would feel like a total failure to me. I want to finish."

Martin said in the new interview that he has around 1,100 manuscript pages of "The Winds of Winter" written. He previously said he had 1,100 or 1,200 pageswritten in 2022. Martin also provided some insight into why the book is taking so long, explaining that when he sits down to write, he often finds himself unhappy with what he has written previously.

"I will open the last chapter I was working on and I'll say, 'Oh f---, this is not very good.' And I'll go in and I'll rewrite it," he told the outlet. "Or I'll decide, 'This Tyrion chapter is not coming along, let me write a Jon Snow chapter.' If I'm not interrupted though, what happens — at least in the past — is sooner or later, I do get into it."

Martin's comments come after he briefly discussed the "Winds of Winter" delay during an appearance atNew York Comic Con in October.

"I know there's all this controversy about 'Winds of Winter' and how late it is, but I've always had trouble with deadlines," he said at the time. "I don't feel happy breaching contracts or missing a deadline or anything like that."

George R.R. Martin talks 'abysmal' relationship with 'House of the Dragon' showrunner

In the Hollywood Reporter profile, Martin further discussed his issues with HBO's "House of the Dragon," a "Game of Thrones" prequel based on Martin's book "Fire & Blood." Martin revealed his relationship with showrunner Ryan Condal is "abysmal" because Condal "basically stopped listening to me" during production of Season 2.

"I would give notes, and nothing would happen," he said. "Sometimes he would explain why he wasn't doing it. Other times, he would tell me, 'Oh, OK, yeah, I'll think about that.' It got worse and worse, and I began to get more and more annoyed. Finally, it got to a point where I was told by HBO that I should submit all my notes to them and they would give Ryan our combined notes."

Martin previously took his grievances with the show public in a2024 blog post slamming changesthe show is making to his source material and, in the process, spoiled a major plot point he said Condal was planning for Season 3. Martin later deleted the blog post.

“Heated Rivalry” star reveals major mistake in his big episode 6 scene: 'We had to change it'

Even the genius minds behindHeated Rivalrycan make a mistake now and then.

Actor François Arnaud, whoplays veteran hockey star Scott Hunteron the Canadian romancethat's had everyone in a chokehold, reveals in an upcoming interview onSiriusXM'sSmith Sisters Livethat a continuity error in his character's timeline wasn't caught until after filming was already completed.

In a preview of the interview released Thursday, Arnaud explained how the show's production team had to make a last-minute change to the final cut of season 1's finale episode while editing.

"Do you think we'll get any intel on what happened between Scott and Kip between those years of, 'I can't do this' and the kiss on the ice?" co-host Mariah Smith asked, referring to how the show changes the timeline of Scott and his beau, the barista Kip Grady (Robbie G.K.) — who serve as the two lead characters of author Rachel Reid's first book in herGame Changersseries.

In the Reidnovelthat the series is adapted from, the gap of time between Scott and Kip going from uncertainty to publicly official is months rather than the several years it is onHeated Rivalry.

"I think I've already spoiled that before, I'll just say it again, even though [show creator] Jacob [Tierney] will probably, you know, give me a slap on the wrist," Arnaud joked. "It's because in the book, and also in the way that we shot it, there was a f--- up in the timeline."

He continued, "A lot of it was really well-conceived, but the juxtaposition of the two storylines, they didn't really know how they were going to cut from one to the other. And so, we shot it thinking it was six months between [Kip's] birthday and the cup, and now it's three years."

HBO Max François Arnaud and Robbie G.K. on 'Heated Rivalry'

Arnaud recalled, "Episode 6, the speech where I win the MLH MVP award, there was a line, and they locked the cut, so it was definitely on my face where I say, 'Fear is a powerful thing, but this year I found the one thing that is more powerful.' So it was 'this year' I found the thing that is more powerful, but it couldn't be this year. So, we had to change it."

But, as Arnaud pointed out, the ADR (automatic dialogue replacement) works, with his character instead affirming, "ButthenI found the one thing that is more powerful."

WhileHeated Rivalrypredominantlyfocused on the steamy sexcapadesof Major League Hockey superstars Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie), the series does give viewersglimpses of Scott and Kip's relationshipby way of time-jump scenes throughout the show.

Arnaud recentlyrevealed toEntertainment Weeklythat there's a lot more that he filmed with his costar that goes beyond what the series showed during season 1.

"There isn't that much sex in our episode," Arnaud pointed out of episode 3, understandably considering how the show's intimate sceneshave become a defining element. "We shot a lot more than there is. I don't know, maybe they're saving it for later, but we shot a lot, like two days of sex scenes. We knew we wanted it to be sweet, sometimes clumsy, joyful, and easy, and not for an audience. Just for them to have that moment."

TheSchitt's Creekalum shared that Tierney pitched Scott and Kip as "the emotional pendant of Shane and Ilya," meaning "all the things they cannot access," Arnaud recalled. Though, once he started reading, he had a different reaction.

"At first I was like, 'Is Jacob Tierney, who I've known for 17 years as an intellectual, doing soft porn?' I was like, 'What is this?'" he admitted. "And then he really turns it on its head. Hot sex is great, but he uses hot sex as a way into so much more than that."

While Arnaud teases "there's more to come" with regard to the Scott and Kip story — the show has alreadybeen renewed for season 2— he's still trying to go with the flow when it comes toHeated Rivalry's overnight success. He always believed in the show and expected it to find an audience, he says, but he calls the overnight popularity "crazy."

Arnaud's full interview onSiriusXM'sSmith Sisters Liveairs Tuesday. Watch the preview above.

Season 1 ofHeated Rivalryis available to stream on HBO Max.
