MORE than 45,000 Orange Order members are set to take to the streets of Scotland.

The mammoth figure will mostly take part in marches across Glasgow, and towns in North and South Lanarkshire.

Executive Officer David Walters said lodges are getting ready

Scotland's largest city will see up to 15,000 people parading on July 6 – just days before of the anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne.

David Walters, executive officer of the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland, said most walks would go ahead despite an increase in objections.

He told the Scottish Sun: "We have over a thousand parades every year in Scotland which go extremely well.

"We sit down with council leaders, officials and Police Scotland making sure everything's in place in advance.

"There's no reason why these parades should be stopped."

It comes just weeks after a march in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, was canned following a public petition.

It was meant to be the first such event, in contrast to other cities and towns which have a long history.

Mr Walters said the organisation had since seen an increase in applications.

He added: "Objectors and those that don't like the any of the Loyal Orders have jumped on the bandwagon of Stonehaven.

"They've put in petitions for quite a few parades that are taking place at the moment.

"They highlighted one or two events over the last years where there has been a few incidents.

"The objections caused fear and mistrust in the community."

Councils said some people were taking part in multiple marches and that details on road closures would be published.

A Glasgow City Council spokesman said : "There is a presumption in law that processions can take place, unless there is a reason to intervene.

"We can only ever look at events on a case by case basis."

A South Lanarkshire spokesman added: "Parades may only be prohibited if Police Scotland object and there is evidence of the likelihood of threats to public safety or serious public disorder."

"Full details are available on our website, including information about how to object or comment to a planned procession".

A North Lanarkshire Council spokesperson added: "Organisers must follow the code of conduct for processions."

Chief Superintendent Stevie Dolan added: "Police Scotland is not responsible for decisions on marches.

"We are committed to supporting the rights of individuals and groups who wish to assemble, balanced against the rights of the wider community and ensuring the safety of everyone involved.

"Our policing operation will be proportionate and focussed on public safety, as well as doing all we can to minimise disruption to the wider community."

A fire and rescue boat was also deployed to the river.

Officers confirmed a body was later pulled from the river.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9.45am on Saturday, 27 April, 2024, we received a report of a body in the water near the George V Bridge in Glasgow.

"Emergency services attended and around 4.05pm the body of a man was recovered.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

THE daughter of a Scots tycoon has been struck off after her client was reportedly left endangered following a risky procedure at her beauty salon.

Jennifer McLeish, whose dad Alan is a railway maintenance millionaire and one of Scotland's richest men, has been removed from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.

She performed the procedure at her beauty salon[/caption]

The 36-year-old is alleged to have performed the cosmetic procedure at her clinic, House of Aesthetics, in Glasgow in September 2019.

According to the Daily Record, the procedure involved hyaluronic injections.

But her client is reported to have suffered a vascular occlusion, which is a blockage in blood vessels, after the procedure was carried out.

The condition is a rare but serious side effect which stops blood from being able to pass through the blood vessels and can cause severe pain.

If it is left untreated it can result in gangrene, which happens when a loss of blood supply causes body tissue to die.

The NMC launched a probe into McLeish's conduct after complaints were made following the incident.

The watchdog found that McLeish, who describes herself as an 'Advanced Cosmetic Injector' on LinkedIn, failed to follow basic protocol.

It found that McLeish failed to obtain informed or any consent from the patient before carrying out the procedure.

It also found that she failed to advise her patient of the risks involved in the procedure.

And it also found that she failed to provide any follow-up care after becoming aware that the patient suffered a possible vascular occlusion.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

The panel stated that McLeish's misconduct had impaired her fitness to practice after she failed to provide evidence that she was improving her practice after the incident.

She was also to have shown no "insight, reflection or remorse" over her actions or how it had impacted her client.

McLeish was then struck off the register with the order coming into effect tomorrow.

The NMC decision reads: "This panel noted there has been no evidence provided by Ms McLeish that demonstrates her insight, reflection or remorse into her actions and the impact it had on Patient A, colleagues the wider profession, as well as her understanding of the significance of her actions.

"This panel has found that there continues to be no evidence of Ms Mcleish having insight or remorse into the charges found proved against her.

"In its consideration of whether Ms Mcleish has strengthened her practice, the panel noted she has not provided any evidence of taking steps to improve her practice.

"The panel found therefore that Ms Mcleish was liable to repeat the matters found proved in the charges and concluded that a finding of current impairment is required in this case to protect the public.

"The panel determined that, in this case, a finding of continuing impairment on public interest grounds is also required.

"For these reasons, the panel finds that Ms Mcleish's fitness to practice remains impaired."

It comes after we revealed that Mcleish put her luxury home on the market after a spate of firebombing attacks.

She listed her pad in the upmarket village of Bothwell, Lanarkshire, in February earlier this year.

It follows a spate of arson and graffiti attacks in recent years.

    </div> </div>

In January 2023, thugs left vulgar sexual insults trashing Mcleish on walls in central Bothwell.

Maniacs also drove a motor to her front gate before setting it ablaze and fleeing.

The fire spread to the fence of Mcleish's neighbour at the time, former Celtic star Leigh Griffiths.

The attacks are understood to be linked to a fall-out between Mcleish's partner Brian McIlear and a Glasgow hood.

In Hamilton, a wall in the David Lloyd gym car park was daubed with personal insults aimed at Jennifer.

In 2020, Jennifer's Range Rover was petrol-bombed, which also set fire to the roof of her £500,000 home.

Her beauty salon, Glasgow, was ramraided weeks later.

AN urgent reappeal has been launched for a missing hiker who vanished over two years ago.

Derek Hepburn, who was 53 when he disappeared, set off to go hiking in the Highlands in 2022.

Anyone on the popular walking route at the time of his disappearance who has information has been urged to get in touch with police[/caption]

He was last in touch with worried relatives on April 24 2022.

Cops launched an urgent search to find Derek and found his motor at the Loch Mullardoch Dam car park in Glen Cannich.

Police believe he planned to hike up Sgurr Na Lapaich or walk in the area around the mountain.

But despite a major police search using specialist officers and equipment, they were unable to find him.

A fresh appeal has now been launched in the hopes someone can come forward with information on where Derek could be.

Senior cops hope anyone who was on the popular walking route may remember seeing Derek.

Officers also issued a description in the hopes someone remembers seeing him.

Derek is described as 6ft 1in, of slim build, with black hair which is balding.

He is normally clean-shaven or with light stubble.

Police Inspector Craig Johnstone said: "It's been two years since Derek's disappearance and we continue to appeal for any information.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

"We've carried out extensive searches for Derek using specially trained officers and equipment but unfortunately we haven't been able to find him.

"The area is popular with walkers and, although I appreciate it was a while ago, someone may remember seeing him or someone matching his description.

"I'd urge anyone with information to come forward.

"The area is vast and we don't know the exact route Derek planned to take so I'd ask the public to consider the wider area when thinking back to the days around Sunday, 24 April, 2022."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1812 of 27 April, 2022.

A BRUTE who was jailed after fracturing the skull of a newborn baby just weeks after her mum died of cancer has been told to "rot in hell" by the child's gran.

Callous Mark Tannahill, 38, made no reaction as he was caged today for four years after being convicted of inflicting a catalogue of sickening injuries on the six-week-old baby girl, leaving her with broken ribs and bruising to her neck, face and body.

Tannahill left the baby with horrific injuries during the sickening attacks[/caption]

The baby's gran today said the sentence wasn't enough and said Tannahill, 38, had shown "his true nature" when he subjected the helpless tot to horrific assaults.

She said: "He has always had anger issues but I never expected he would do things like this to a tiny baby. It's just disgusting."

The child was left in Tannahill's care after her mother tragically died of aggressive ovarian cancer in August 2021, just weeks after she was born.

But Tannahill's sick catalogue of abuse was exposed when the child's gran raised the alarm with social services after noticing unexplained bruising and blood in the baby's vomit in September 2021.

Other witnesses came forward to say they had heard the burly brute screaming at the child to "shut the f**k up" – but he denied shouting or swearing saying he told the baby to "shut up in a soothing way".

Sick Tannahill, of Crosshouse, Ayrshire, also tried to explain away the baby's bruised face saying she had got the marks from too much tummy time.

When his explanations were not believed, Tannahill then blamed the baby's gran and 14-year-old cousin for the vile assaults.

The devastated gran said: "I would never have let him near her if I'd known he was going to do these things. I wish he could never get out.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

"Four years is not enough. He should have been tried at the High Court and got more than that."

The child's uncle added: "If you asked me that sentence is disgusting. He should be hanging from a rope."

There were jeers of "f*****g rat" from the packed public gallery as Tannahill was handcuffed and sent down.

Sentencing him Sheriff Colin Bissett condemned "deceptive" Tannahill for maintaining his "complete denial" and trying to blame the child's family.

He said: "These are appalling offences. You have been convicted of subjecting a tiny infant to a series of assaults resulting in her severe injury and endangerment to her life.

"The horror of this offence is heightened by the fact that due to her mother's terminal illness and unfortunate death she was wholly dependent on you to protect her and care for her.

"You maintained this position at your trial, incriminating these women. No doubt adding considerably to the distress and anxiety they must have felt in coming to court to give evidence.

"Only you can know why you did what you did.

"You have repeatedly demonstrated your only concern is for yourself.

"This callous self-interest has only heightened the distress and anxiety experienced by those who love [the baby]"

Tannahill's lawyer Alex Muir said his client was of previous good behaviour having never been before the court until now.

However Sheriff Bissett said "There's nothing which mitigates these offences."

Prosecutor Fraser Alexander said: "In the 20 years I have been a criminal lawyer this is perhaps the most upsetting case I've ever tried."

The pensioner, 77, was struck by a Vauxhall Corsa on the busy route, close to its junction with Bellahouston Drive.

Emergency crews were scrambled to the scene around 12.25pm when the alarm was raised.

The woman was rushed by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

Her condition has been described as serious but stable.

Paisley Road West was shut between Bellahouston Drive and Jura Street.

Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Local diversions have been put in place for motorists and buses operating in the area.

First Glasgow tweeted that the 9A and 10 services would be diverted Mosspark Boulevard and Dumbreck Road.

Police are calling for any witnesses to get in touch with officers.

Sergeant Christopher Hoggans of Police Scotland said: "This is a busy area and I am urging any witnesses to the crash who have not yet spoken to police to contact us as soon as possible.

"I would also ask any drivers with dash-cam to check their footage and get in touch if it contains anything that may be relevant to our investigation.

"Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting reference number 1386 of 25 April."

TRANS paedophile Andrew Miller has returned to being a man, we can reveal.

The ex-butcher, 54, dressed as a woman called Amy George when he lured a schoolgirl of 11 into an abduction and sex abuse nightmare.

Miller has reverted to being addressed as a man again at HMP Edinburgh

But jail insiders told how he now insists on being addressed as male while serving his 20-year sentence.

A source at HMP Edinburgh said yesterday: "Miller no longer uses the name Amy George and insists on being called Andrew.

"He dresses as a man, looks like a man, and there's nothing feminine about him."

The monster, of Gattonside, Selkirkshire, was caged last October for subjecting the child to a 27-hour ordeal in February 2023 — described by a judge as "every parent's worst nightmare".

Our insider revealed he was "surprisingly popular" with other caged pervs while on remand.

They added: "He had a little squad of child sex offenders around him.

"They all sat together. Some were puzzled about why he was so popular and asked what he was in for.

"When full details of what he had done emerged, some cons were shocked, but others couldn't have cared less."

We told how Miller was accused of "playing the system" by pretending to be female to force a jail move.

He was switched to an "enhanced" wing at the capital prison.

The Scottish Prison Service said: "We do not comment on individuals."

But he stepped down from the role after a police investigation was launched against him.

He was elected as an SNP member in 2017 and was made council leader in May 2022.

But he resigned from his post a few weeks later after allegations surfaced against him.

He initially continued serving as a councillor but quit both the council and the SNP last year.

Linden, of Bellshill, Lanarkshire, has now appeared in private at Dundee Sheriff Court.

He faces claims of 15 alleged sexual offences.

This includes six charges of sexual assault and eight of indecent communication.

Prosecutors also allege two further charges of stalking and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

Linden made no plea and was released on bail.

No date has been set for a future court appearance.

The SNP previously said they could not comment on live criminal proceedings.

But they added that they would offer support to any party members if they were involved.

The Met Office shared a graph to show where temperatures are on the rise

It comes after overnight temperatures dropped to as low as -3C last week, with some snowfall on higher ground.

But this week there is finally some warm spring weather to look forward to.

However, not everywhere will be able to enjoy the sunny spells, with the east of the country expected to be hit with some wet weather.

The west will see the best of the conditions in the lead up to the weekend.

And forecasters have revealed that the mercury will rise to 21C in Oban.

A graph posted on X by the Met Office shows the temperature will peak on Thursday, May 2

It means that parts of Scotland will be hotter than Madrid which will be 14C and cloudy.

And it will even be a couple degrees warmer than Ibiza which is showing highs of 19C.

The west of the country will see the best of the weather over the coming days, with a weather front from the southeast pushing temperatures up across Scotland.

An area of low cloud across eastern areas around Edinburgh will make it feel cooler.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

There will be a few scattered showers on Friday and Saturday but temperatures remain warm.

In Glasgow, the mercury is predicted to hit 16C despite a cloudy outlook.

THE family of a woman who fell to her death from a hotel balcony in Benidorm have made a plea for witnesses to come forward on the seventh anniversary of the tragedy.

Kirsty Maxwell died in mysterious circumstances on April 29 2017 while on a hen party weekend.

Kirsty Maxwell's husband, Adam Maxwell, and her parents have made a renewed appeal[/caption]

The 27-year-old, from Livingston, West Lothian, plunged from the tenth floor of the Apartamentos Payma, off the balcony of a room occupied by five Britons.

A Spanish judge ruled that there was 'no evidence' the room's occupants, a group of friends from Nottingham, were involved in the tragedy.

Kirsty's parents Brian and Denise Curry are still fighting for answers and have made a renewed appeal of social media for people who may hold vital information to come forward.

They want to trace a group of Spanish-speaking people who were residing in an overlooking hotel and may have witnessed the incident.

The family are also looking for an English-speaking couple aged 40 to 50 who saw Kirsty's body at the Payma pool when they checked out of their room and a customer at a nearby cafe who was talking about seeing a girl climbing or falling from a balcony.

They also want to hear from an English-speaking couple who were heard speaking about Kirsty's death in the same cafe on the morning of the incident.

The family are being assisted by former senior detective David Swindle.

Posting on social media, Mr Swindle said: "Despite the passage of time people will remember such important information.

"Don't assume we or the police know what you know."

Kirsty, who got married to husband Adam only months before the tragedy, fell from the balcony less than 12 hours after arriving in Benidorm.

She had returned to her apartment on the ninth floor in the early hours and was filmed asleep shortly before 7am on the morning she died.

About an hour later, it is believed that she mistakenly entered an apartment on the floor above, which was occupied by the five British men.

Spanish judge Ana Isabel Garcia-Galbis ruled in September 2019 there was no proof that the death was a homicide or that the five men could have been involved.

Mr and Mrs Curry's legal team have claimed that the judge mistakenly made the amount of alcohol Mrs Maxwell drank the night before her death a defining factor in what happened to her.

They have also highlighted her failure to sanction DNA tests on the men.

The couple launched the Kirsty Maxwell Charity to offer emotional and financial support to grieving relatives of people who have died overseas.

THE threat of far-right terrorism in Scotland is "very real and growing" — with alerts doubling in two years.

The Prevent programme, aiming to safeguard people from terrorist involvement, said 26 were at high risk of influence from such ideology in 2022-23.

Referrals rose from 12 in 2020-21.

Three individuals were flagged as being at risk of Islamist ideology, according to a Police Scotland report, while 15 were categorised as "mixed, unstable or unclear".

From that, 44 people were deemed serious enough to be raised to the higher level

And dangerously, almost a third of those flagged as needing intervention were under 15 – translating to 12 kids with at least two referrals from primary-school age children.

However, it's not made clear in the report which ideology the youngsters were being associated with.

A spokesman for anti-fascist group Hope Not Hate said: "This should be a wake-up call to the Government. There must be a strategy to tackle the very real and growing threat of far-right extremism."

Sam Imrie, 26, was jailed in 2019 after posting online that he planned to set fire to Fife Islamic Centre.

Last year, James Farrell, 33, of Glasgow, was caged after admitting joining a far-right group and online terrorist offences.

Farrell joined Oaken Hearth sharing racist and neo-Nazi views with other bigots.

The 32 year-old's photos and comments included him claiming 'n*****s" were "sub-human" and also later stating: "It is about time someone firebombed a synagogue."

The ex-security guard went on to post a link to a clip on the making of "The Ultimate DIY machine pistol".

Farrell ended being held by police at his family home in Priesthill, Glasgow, following a large-scale probe into the Oaken Hearth group.

He helped get himself caught as being a member as a photo of a right wing book he had earlier posted had his dog in the background.

Farrell later stated he thought the gun clip was "edgy and cool".

The first offender pleaded guilty at the High Court in Glasgow to a charge under the Terrorism Act.

Commenting on the report, Police Scotland Assistant Chief Constable David Duncan said: "Police Scotland is focused on working in partnership to protect our communities by continuing to deliver the Prevent Strategy.

"The multi-agency approach, which promotes early intervention, will help safeguard those individuals who have been identified as susceptible to radicalisation and being drawn into terrorism or violent extremism.

"We remain committed to building strong partnerships with communities and other stakeholders to address the underlying causes fuelling radicalisation."

A Scottish Government spokesperson said: "Ministers are committed to building inclusive, resilient and safe communities, and the Scottish Government works closely with partners across the UK to prevent and tackle the threat posed by all forms of extremism."

A FORMER Tunnock's worker has been jailed for running a huge drugs-smuggling operation.

Bailey Highton, 23, gave up making Caramel Wafers and Tea Cakes for the biscuit firm to traffick £3.6million worth of heroin and cocaine.

Highton swapped making Tunnock's tea cakes for dealing

The baby-faced dealer was "very active" in Glasgow and Aberdeen and made drop-offs in London, Kent, Liverpool, Essex, Manchester and Birmingham.

He was also in contact with a druglord in Spain and Dubai.

But Highton was busted after cops in Cumbria found his fingerprints on a drugs package linked to local crime boss Robert Smith.

They found detailed records of deals on a phone and he even used his own car for smuggling.

Carlisle Crown Court heard he handled £823,805 in cash despite living in a small flat in Blantyre, Lanarkshire.

Highton's defence lawyer Andrew Evans said: "He worked at a factory in Uddingston making Tunnock's Tea Cakes."

After pleading guilty to five drugs charges he was caged for a total of seven years, 10 months.

Recorder Julian Shaw told Highton: "The sheer level and scale of the industrial supply you were engaged in was shocking."
